Review: Flux @ Beaver Works

Whether you’re a fresher beginning to grasp that Beaver Works might just be your favourite venue in Leeds, or whether you’ve already spent half your university life in its sweaty basement, Flux knows how to welcome you. Beaver Works opened its doors last Friday to bring home the opening party of one of Leeds’ favourite house and disco nights.

With sets from international and legendary DJs, Rahaan, San Proper, Chasing Kurt and Antal, there was music to keep everyone captivated. Disco classics upstairs created feel-good vibes, triggering a lot of singing along to old-time favourites. For something a little heavier punters headed down to the basement for the deeper side of house, a highlight being the killer set from Rush Hour’s San Proper. Lastly, the new ‘Red Room’ offered up something different in the form of a live show from Berlin trio, Chasing Kurt, which certainly didn’t disappoint.

Showcasing fresh young talent as well as internationally renowned DJs makes Flux a one of a kind party. Representing local talent, the night welcomed Leeds University students Reuben, Perry Miles and Stephen Howe, along with ex-Leeds’ rising star and Flux resident Dan Shake. Thanks to Beaver Works’ new room, this year’s Flux was far more spacious and comfortable and the sofas and bonfire outside created space for a breather or time to catch up with the friends you didn’t expect to bump into. Both the venue and the sets met and exceeded expectations, leaving us excited for the forthcoming Halloween Special.
