LUU Islamic Society has held its biggest event, Freshers Dinner, which coincided with the Muslim feast festival of Eid-al-Adha. The dinner, which took place last week, is an annual event and attracted around 250 students from  Leeds, including students from Leeds Beckett and those of other faith and cultural societies at the University.

The dinner is aimed at bringing together freshers, re-freshers and alumni alike to meet over a three course dinner. This year the tables completely filled The Refectory floor as people wined and dined the night away. The evening featured a guest speaker to advise Muslim students on the importance of aiming for excellence whilst practicing Islam. Award winning comedian, Prince Abdi from London was present on the night to entertain the crowd.

Noha Abou El Magd, an ex ISoc member and graduate said: “This was my fourth freshers dinner and probably my favourite. It’s incredible to see how far Isoc have come and their engagement with the Union and other societies is heart-warming to say the least. The atmosphere was very relaxed and welcoming. It makes me sad I’m no longer a fresher but proud to think of how far they’ve come and excited to see what lies ahead.”
