Music | SBTRKT @ O2 Academy 26/09

Ahead of his forthcoming album Wonder Where We Land, producer Aaron Jerome, more commonly known as SBTRKT, graced the O2 academy with the first night of his UK tour.

Scuttling onto the stage in a blackout, the SBTRKT team exploded into action leaving not one stagnant body in the room. He was accompanied by support act and female vocalist on most recent single ‘The Light’, Denai Moore, and together they played a spectacular set. ‘New Dorp New York’, featuring Ezra Koenig’s dulcet tones, sent the crowd into frenzy, although was perhaps played a tad too soon.

Considering the huge backdrops that were available, many were hoping for a real visual treat to accompany the music, however they may have been left feeling slightly underwhelmed. Having said this, the lighting was incredible and although the set did lose its spark temporarily as he began to play some of his new material, we can cut him some slack, given that it was the first night of the tour. He soon won back the crowd anyway, climbing to huge hit ‘Wildfire’, before dropping a cheeky remix of Radiohead’s ‘Lotus Flower’. The surprise remix drove everyone nuts, and by finishing with ‘Right Thing To Do’, the man in the mask ended on a bang.
