TUESDAY – Despicable Me (ITV2 19:00)
One of the most successful animation productions of recent years is Despicable Me, a crazy but cute film that brought the beloved yellow minions to our world, and now they are EVERYWHERE! Offbeat, funny, adorable and wonderfully entertaining, you will be beaming for hours after this film.
WEDNESDAY – Scarface (ITV4 23:00)
No matter what Al Pacino has done and will do in his future career, he will always be remembered for saying ‘say hello to my little friend’ in the iconic role of Tony Montana. This classic crime drama about mobsters in Miami is a must-see, and you can watch it over and over again. A true masterpiece.
THURSDAY – Charlotte Gray (Film4 18:35)
The award-winning author Sebastian Faulks has written many novels, including Charlotte Gray which was adapted into a film in 2001. Following a Scottish woman who joins the French resistance in the middle of WWII to try and find her lost boyfriend, it is a powerful tale that has been well transformed into film.
FRIDAY – 28 Days Later (Film4 22:50)
Let’s face it, everyone loves a good zombie film. Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later is one such film, a terrifying and tense drama that follows a handful of survivors after an incurable virus spreads across the globe. Cillian Murphy takes the lead role, and proves what a fantastic actor he is.
SATURDAY – Margin Call (BBC2 22:30)
Who knew banking could be so thrilling. 2011 film Margin Call proves that it certainly can! Centering around a group of investment bankers at the start of the economic crisis, it is tense, dramatic and a great psychological insight into the world of banking and the real causes of the crisis. The film’s stellar cast includes the likes of Kevin Spacey, Stanley Tucci and Paul Bettany.
SUNDAY – Magic Mike (Channel 4 21:00)
The concept of a film that starred Channing Tatum as a stripper provoked much huffing and puffing, with many believing money was being spent on a film purely designed to make girls drool. However, in the hands of Steven Soderbergh, Magic Mike became so much more than men taking their clothes off, though expect plenty of this too. Dramatic, emotional and with a good performance from Channing Tatum, it is a good watch, especially for a Sunday night in.
