Midland

Duster EP

Following his highly praised ‘Trace’ EP in 2013, Leeds local Midland’s ‘Duster’ EP has been eagerly anticipated by the world of house and techno – and his newest release on established label Aus Music does not disappoint.

The title track is a tech house jam which has a real funky feel to it. Offbeat claps couple with pulsating pads to create an upbeat techno vibe, complimented by a melody of creeping strings. Featuring a rolling shuffle and threatening a number of tasty drops, it successfully keeps you interested throughout.

The less impressive B side ‘Reflex’ is an analogue techno track with a rough but bouncy beat along with skitty percussion. The lack of a drop and build up gives the track a repetitive and somewhat tedious feel towards the end.

B side 2 ‘Pitch Drift’ has a more relaxed, late night/early morning vibe and the dubbed out percussion teases you through the track, giving it an overall psychedelic edge.
