News | Cockpit Closes Permanently

Popular Leeds music venue and club, The Cockpit has announced it will not be re-opening after the summer closure.

The announcement was made on their website earlier today and cites the building’s ‘current condition’ as the reason for the closure. The club had been closed over summer for ‘essential maintenance’. As recently as 6 days ago their Twitter feed was announcing new gigs booked at the venue.

The Cockpit has been a highly popular music venue amongst students for 20 years and in that time has played host to notable acts such as the Queens of the Stone Age, Paramore and the Arctic Monkeys.

Fans of the venue have taken to social media to share their dismay at the closure of their ‘favourite club and music venue’. Others have described it as ‘sad news’.

The Cockpit’s popular club-nights SlamDunk and the Garage will be moving to a new venue, ‘The Key Club’, which will be located on Merrion Street in the City Centre. The club is due to open on Saturday 20th September.

The Cockpit assure customers that all gigs they have booked will be moved to new venues and all original tickets will remain valid.
