Last week we brought you five great sports societies at Leeds University, but because there are just so many we decided to bring you even more this week. Take a look at some of the University’s other sports societies below….
Ultimate Frisbee
Ultimate Frisbee is a friendly and sociable sports club, whilst also being a serious competitive sport. We regularly compete at regional and national level, as well as a series of annual fun beginner tournaments, so newcomers are always welcome. We train twice a week outdoors (Wednesday and Sunday 2-4pm) and once a week indoors (either Tuesday 4.30-5.30pm or Thursday 5-6pm).
For those that don’t know, Ultimate Frisbee is a fast paced, non-contact sport played both indoors and outdoors with a flying disc. It combines the best aspects of Football, Rugby, American Football and Basketball into one sport for men and women of any experience level, from complete beginner to expert. It is played by men’s, women’s and mixed teams all over the world and recognised by all major sporting bodies. Weekend tournaments away always involve a great social, as well as our regular socials in Leeds!
If you’re interested in finding out more about Ultimate Frisbee at Leeds, check out our Facebook Group, where you’ll also find details of our training sessions, Give It A Go sessions and socials!

Aussie Rules
Leeds Minotaurs Australian Rules Football Club were formed in 2011 and compete against University teams throughout the Uni terms and then in the Central and Northern England league during the summer months. We went the entire 2013 season undefeated to win the Premiership, defeating Manchester.
We are currently in a transitional phase and are looking for someone to take over the running of the club. For anyone that doesn’t know the sport then please YouTube ‘AFL highlights’. The only difference is that we play 9-a-side on rugby pitches.
For more information please email leedsminotaursarfc@hotmail.com or tweet us at @LeedsMinotaurs.

Cross Country
Leeds University Cross Country club is an inclusive, social, yet high performance club for middle and long distance runners. In recent years we have had several international representatives amongst our ranks in disciplines as diverse as mountain running, marathon, and race walking. Throughout the year we compete in inter-university competitions and local league races around the country, culminating in cross country BUCS at the start of February.
In the summer many of our members compete on the track, and we provide many competitors to the Athletics team in the longer events for track & field BUCS in May. There are five scheduled training sessions per week, and many members meet up for runs outside of these times so there is always a huge variety of training to choose from.

Squash and Racketball
With five teams competing in the BUCS championships, Squash and Racketball is one of the busier societies within the University of Leeds. A consistently high standard is played, with our 1st women’s and men’s teams currently competing in the premier and 1A divisions respectively. Additionally, recreational sessions run throughout the year meaning that there is something for everyone, regardless of ability. Training is held three times a week at the Gryphon Sports Centre on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The 2013-2014 season saw some great results from all our teams, as well as other events such as Varsity, Christie Cup, a very successful exhibition match with our coach, ex world no. 3 Simon Parke and world ranked no. 22, Chris Simpson and frequent socials! We look forward to welcoming new players to our society and to another successful season in 2014-2015.

Jiu Jitsu
Jiu Jitsu (or Jitsu) is a martial art that teaches self-defence through using the attackers energy against them. Meaning anyone can do it! We teach throwing, locking, striking and break falling and much more. Jitsu also helps improve your fitness, confidence and awesomeness!
We are very happy to celebrating our 30th anniversary this year and will be hosting loads of give it a go sessions, regional courses and guest instructor sessions. To top it off we are ending the year with the national Summer Ball. We recently won runner up club Jiu Jitsu club of the year and are aiming to take that one higher for our anniversary.
We train Mondays and Wednesday nights in the Edge (Studio 2, 8:30pm) and first session is always free. After that sessions cost from only £1.50, making us the cheapest of the martial arts clubs.
