You can’t go wrong with a classic white shirt, whether it’s fitted, loose, pleated or the one your dad once wore to paint the kitchen. A white shirt should be a staple piece in every woman – and man’s – wardrobe. For both work and comfort, it is a wardrobe essential that is so versatile and easy that it means everyone should make a special space in their wardrobe for at least one. It’s also one of those great items that does not date, and won’t be tied to one season. Pairing a white shirt with a pair of jeans is a classic look that is smart enough to look like you have made the effort – without actually putting in the effort (which works for me!). If you are in desperate need of something useful for layering and to be simply worn under a jumper then a sharp white shirt can lift the outfit from smart to style-smart.

As it’s such a staple it can really be worth spending that little bit extra on, as it will last for years to come, therefore, don’t be afraid to look towards good quality brands. If you’re a good bargain hunter keep your eye out in the sales for designer shirts that may be reduced to a fraction of the price, as they’re likely to bring out almost an exact replica next season and they could last your forever.

Don’t be afraid to get a shirt with a little bit of detailing or edge. Although, if you keep it fairly simple it will work for any occasion and you will have at least one wardrobe staple sorted.
