News | £25m hub to put Uni on enterprise map

Leeds University is reviving plans to build a £25m enterprise hub on campus.

The 70,000 square feet building will be located along the city’s inner ring road behind The Fenton and Strawberryfields Bar.

Although no specific timescale has been revealed, it is hoped that work on the eight-storey, cube-like building will commence by March 2015.

The centre will provide a base for start-up businesses, offering advice and support from academics at the city’s three universities.

Leeds Student understands that plans for the hub were initially drawn up in 2010, although construction works were delayed due to the economic recession at the time.

The Business School’s Professor Nigel Lockett said the project will help to secure Leeds’ image as “the most enterprising university in the UK”.

The hub will accommodate 15-20 start-up companies to work alongside the university.
