LS has been crowned Yorkshire’s best free weekly newspaper for a third consecutive year at this year’s O2 Media Awards.
Run by student volunteers, the paper came in front of the Dearne Valley Weekender, a well established regional publication.
LS was highly commended for Best Editorial Team and Scoop of the Year for its campaign against a Leeds night club that promoted rape, which received national coverage.

Last year’s Editor in Chief, Rehema Figueiredo, said, “I am so thrilled that LS’ achievements this year have been recognised; the team worked so hard to produce an amazing paper every week and I am very proud of them”.
LUU’s radio and TV talent was also commended by judges. Against tight competition from industry professionals, LSR’s James Hanson received Broadcast Presenter of the Year, whilst LSTV’s Andrew Seddon won the O2 Emerging Talent Award.
