Food | Leeds Food and Drink Festival Preview

Running from Friday 23rd May until Sunday 8th June 2014, the festival will be a celebration of the amazing food and drink scene in Leeds. Here are our LSi highlights!

Yorkshire Food and Drink Show (6th – 8th June): Live demonstrations from local chefs, artisan food specialists, traditional real ales, Pimms and cocktail bars and some of Yorkshire’s finest restaurants serving their signature dishes across Millennium Square.

‘Grand DeParty’: To celebrate the Tour de France coming to Yorkshire there will be a French section where you’ll be able to sample French produce including cheese, wines, bread and coffee. Leeds French restaurant’s Kendells, Brasserie Blanc, Café Rouge and a Parisian Smokery (operating from a retro Citroen van), will all be serving delicious French food.

 

Veg Out (May 31st – 1st June):  Vegetarians don’t despair. Veg Out at Wharf Chambers will feature a huge selection of vegetarian and vegan vendors such as The Grub & Grog Shop, Bare Plume Cafe, That Old Chestnut, Leeds Bread Coop and Bundobust. And if that wasn’t enough, you’ll have your own music and art entertainment for the whole period as well.

Cooking Demonstrations (7th June): Among the many cooking demonstrations throughout the city, celebrity chef Stephanie Moon will be preparing some tasty Yorkshire-themed food in Jamie Oliver’s Ministry of Food in Leeds Kirkgate Market.

 

Champagne, Wine and Beer Tasting: No matter what your poison the Food and Drink Festival will have it covered.

 

All About Yorkshire (30th May): The White Swan is hosting not only an English wine tasting event on Tuesday 27th May, but a celebration of the best ales from Leeds and Yorkshire. A selection of meats, cheeses and breads from the region will also be available, and a folk band with a banjo to boot.

Brewtality Sunday 1st June 2014, from 3.00pm For those who enjoy trying new beers or brew their own Crowd of Favours is offering a brewers competition. Those with their own brew get free entry. Or for £5, you’ll be able to taste all the homebrews and help select the winner.

 

The Pink Shed: Throughout the festival the pop-up restaurant at Trinity Leeds will seat an exclusive table of eight people each day and offer diners a unique feast. Will you be one of the lucky ones?

Handmade in Yorkshire (6th June – 8th June): Leeds Kirkgate Market is hosting another opportunity to support local producers at Victoria Gardens. The event will feature cooking demonstrations from some of the best chefs in Yorkshire including Gusto Italiano, Ye Old Sunn Inn, Cracker Jack BBQ, Dish, Jamie Oliver’s Ministry of Food and The Greedy Pig. Great street entertainment courtesy of Planet Leeds on Saturday is also provided.
