So festival season is here again being kicked off by California’s biggest sensation Coachella festival. Most of us await festivals eagerly but every year without fail us Brits can often only look on the internet and sob. After all who wouldn’t swap April showers for Californian rays?

Fear not however because even if we can’t be there we can treat it as a great source of inspiration when summer truly kicks in here. Fringing, Aztec prints, florals galore. The festival season is a sartorialist’s time to shine. However it’s also one of the most accessible looks as it very often stays the same each year taking inspiration from the same hippy tropes kicked off in 69 by Woodstock. Everybody is at it on the high street starting to offer a ‘festival range’. Beyond Retro have actually dedicated a look on their website called ‘Coachella Girl’ so get shopping! And hopefully by the time our festivals roll around we won’t be rained into long sleeves and layers!

Denim cut-offs are a perfect festival staple and they’re super easy to customise. Bleaching them gives them an acid wash look and Ebay is full of iron on stickers and studs so it’s a chance to get creative.

A good kimono never goes a miss in summer as it keeps us slightly warmer in the evening but is a perfect floaty companion to the florals and fringing of the day time.
Lastly the sandal. This season has a huge array of different shoes but the ruling trend seems to be chunky everything. Ever since the creeper came back a heavier soul has been on all designer’s minds and this season was no exception. Look to Topshop, Vagabond and Dr. Martens to tick all the right boxes.
