Last Friday night saw the launch of a new night in Leeds, Silk. Held at the Eiger Studios, the evening opened its doors to an eager, albeit small crowd. Promoted as a “deep and soulful” evening, the stellar line up did not disappoint. With a mixture of up and coming talent alongside some well established names the evening was spread across two rooms, with an impressive speaker system to boot.

Immediately upon entering the venue the credentials of the sound system were evident; brought in from Sheffield, the powerful Dedication Audio system pounded through the room and had the steadily growing crowd hooked.

Versa set the tone for the night with a chilled set of deep soul, whilst Modu from Inform Records picked things up with a banging, upbeat session. The back room was a touch more intimate, and held some impressive lighting effects. The likes of Jahzan and Gullyman kept revellers entertained with some fast paced beats that had the room pulsing.

Overall I would say the launch night was a definite success. The monumental sound system dominated the room and the eclectic mixture of carefully selected acts did not disappoint. The night was tied together with an impressive set from dRamatic and dbAudio, which had the crowd going wild. As can be expected from a launch night was selectively small although this made the night feel enjoyably spacious.

Silk will be hosting their night on May 10 – on the basis of things at their opening edition, and with G.O.D. on the line up, it’s one to look out for.
