Yorkshire Pudding named county icon

The Yorkshire Pudding has been voted the biggest Yorkshire icon.

It beat York Minster and the Dales to the top in a vote of more than 11,000 people.

The poll was run by Dalesman magazine, to mark the 75th anniversary of the publication.

 

Waste cafe opens in Armley

A Pay As You Feel cafe serving previously discarded food has opened in Armley.

Chef Adam Smith receives the waste food from local restaurants and serves it up in his cafe.

The food has no fixed price, and has been credited with helping locals in need.

 

Pretend plague hits Leeds City Centre

Forensic tents and body bags filled Leeds this week as part of a pandemic reconstruction.

The pretend plague was staged by True North productions for their Channel 4 show ‘Return of the Black Death: Secret History’.

The show will explore what would happen if the bubonic plague were to sweep the nation today.
