If you’re anything like me, and want to see more of England than just Leeds, Brighton should be at the top of your bucket list.
Located on the south coast of England, the city has a vibe unlike any other UK city. Upon arriving, I felt like I was on holiday – although I was lucky to have come when the weather was just perfect.
The Pier, possibly Brighton’s main attraction was flooded with people, giving it a very touristy feel. The smell of the sea and the warm rays of sunshine definitely reminded me of my childhood years in the south of Spain. Plus, there is so much to do at the pier, with its many rides, stalls and restaurants that offer a variety of different options such as the classic fish and chips, waffles, milkshakes and seafood. And make sure to try the Brighton rock – the town’s very own sweet.
Upon leaving the seaside, I visited Churchill Square – the town’s main shopping area. With shops ranging from Zara and H&M to Build-a-bear Workshop and Thornton’s, there is something for everyone. You could even make a day trip out of it and visit one of the many restaurants and cafes on offer. However, for those who love a bit of unconventional shopping, the so-called “hippy streets” in The Lanes is the place to go. With its many vintage clothing stores, eco-friendly crafts and quirky bookshops, it’s the perfect place to find something different and unusual.
As for the nightlife, Brighton offers a range of authentic bars and pubs with affordable prices, including those overlooking the sea. For those of you looking for a big night out, there is a student event every night of the week, and there’s something for everyone in places like Oceana, FunFair club, Lola Lo’s, and many more.
Brighton is definitely worth the effort of getting there – I know I will definitely be coming back.
