The A Capella society’s primary choir have sung their way into the top five groups in the country this week.
The Songsmiths did a tour-de-force performance as they took part in the Voice Festival UK (VFUK) 2014, held at the City of London School for Girls.
This year’s festival is the first time Leeds’ students have made it as runners up in the prestigious event.
During their performance, the Songsmiths performed musical accompaniment-free versions of hits like Fitzpleasure by Alt-J and Bonnie Tyler’s 80s power ballad classic Total Eclipse of the Heart in the semi-finals.
Attendees at the events said that the 16-strong group “shone through with harmonious crisp tones, accompanied by an unconventional hi-hat beat-boxing and dubstep bass”.
The group may be the underdog in the final, but their effort and abilities so far have proven nothing short of remarkable.
