Music | News – The Fly announces closure

It was announced last week that the music magazine The Fly will be no more, after its publishers announced that the free monthly is closing down after almost 15 years. Known for mainly covering indie and less well-known artists, The Fly was once one of the most-read music publications in the UK, but has since suffered from falling readership. In a statement on the magazine’s website, publishers cited ‘current market conditions surrounding publications’ as the reason for its closure, and thanked its readers for their support.

It was also suggested that The Fly might continue to exist as an online entity, with current editor JJ Dunning taking the helm, but nothing has been confirmed. While this announcement will mark a sad day for music journalism and for fans of the magazine, it also acts as a warning to rival publications such as NME, that in the digital age, no one is safe.
