Sport | City take first step to quadruple with Capital One Cup win

Wembley was host to the Capital One Cup this weekend, seeing Manchester City aim to secure their first trophy under new manager Manuel Pellegrini. Despite what was a strong performance from Sunderland, City proved too much after coming from behind to win 3-1. Manchester City were overwhelming favourites going into the game and would have been looking to make amends for a shock defeat in the FA Cup last season to Wigan.

Sunderland got off to a magnificent start in the game, scoring after just 10 minutes through on-loan Striker Fabio Borini. Sunderland were able to hold onto their lead up to the half time, battling as they went in search of their first ever Capital One Cup win.

Unfortunately for Sunderland, it took just 10minutes of the second half for Manchester City to equalise through an outstanding curled shot from midfielder Yaya Toure. Things went from bad to worse for Sunderland as it took less than two minutes for City to score their second, when French international Samir Nasri dispatched from the edge of the area to put the favourites in front. The game was finally rounded off in the 90th minute, Jesus Navas scoring the third goal for City.

This was Manchester City’s third League Cup win in the club’s history, and Manuel Pellegrini will be hoping to add three more trophies this season as he pursues what would be a famous quadruple – a feat never previously achieved by any Premier League club.
