Clubs | Review – Selective Hearing presents Mano Le Tough

I hopped on the ever-luxurious Megabus to Manchester for the first installment of Selective Hearing’s birthday celebrations. The Leeds and Manchester-based collective turn four this year and they’re certainly trying to prove they know how to party.

The first of their four birthday events brought world renowned DJs Prosumer and Mano Le Tough to Gorilla, a venue probably best sutied to live music events with its high-risen stage and sound set up. A strange choice of venue, but one I was able to overlook when Mano le Tough, who earned his place amongst Resident Advisor’s top 20 DJs of last year, took to the stage. His music has been described as “florid” and “sprightly”, delivered on the night in his incredibly enjoyable set. Technically faultless and visibly connected to the music, Mano le Tough was a joy to watch. His seamless mix of captivating vocal house included Juxta Postition’s ‘Mercy’.

Panorama Bar resident, Prosumer, is recognised for his original and soulful mixes of classic house and since his outstanding set at Dimensions last year, I have been longing to see him again. He did not disappoint. Prosumer brings underrated and little known house music to our well-deserved attention and blends it with upbeat tracks guaranteed to make you move. His own ‘Hold Me Touch Me’ remix of Murat Tepeli’s ‘Forever’ made for the ultimate dance number, as those all too recognisable piano bars filled the room.

Altogether a fantastic night of music from two of the best house DJs in Berlin. Selective have most certainly done it again, and Part 2 of the “We are Four” series at Wire, with Trus’Me and Vakula on February 21, is one to look out for.
