Otley Road remained closed this morning between North Grange Road and Victoria Road after gale force winds caused damage and disruption across the city last night.
A fallen tree at Headingley Lane reportedly damaged a car, breaking through a wall, leading to the road closure.
The storm has also brought traffic on Woodhouse Moor to a standstill.
Further damage has been reported at Call Lane, where police are on the scene.
Many students found themselves stranded at the Parkinson Building as buses – including the Union’s nightbus – were delayed.
One student took to Facebook and described his journey home as “the worst drive of my life”.
Leeds Rowing club has also urged its members to stay safe.
The council’s Emergency Planning division have been giving information and advice about the weather via their Twitter page.
BBC weather has forecast further severe gales tonight.
