There ain’t no party like a fashion week party. This week I scored an invite to the YMC after show party, hosted by Men’s Health and Liberty, London. As David Gandy showed off his newly embroidered ‘David J. Gandy’ coat collar (now considering stitching school name tags into my entire wardrobe), Samuel L. Jackson dropped in for a few drinks and a chat about the collection. If these two advocates aren’t doing it for you check out the new collection below and cast your own opinion.
This last week London has played host to men’s fashion week, London Collections: Men. Now in its fourth year, this three-day showcase has taken British menswear out of the closet and brought it to the forefront of people’s minds. LC:M has brought together impeccable Saville Row tailoring with new age individual design, bringing attention and acceptance to more adventurous design. It’s no coincidence that menswear has got more bold and outlandish in recent years.
YMC, founded in ’95, have always stuck to their founding ethos of function over trend, but this season they moulded the two together perfectly. This collection showed a chilled-out take on golf-wear, with a beret for every model. We saw relaxed and unstructured tailoring and double-breasted blazers teamed with heavy knits. The Pringle-esque, golf-style knitwear and oversized tailoring was a throwback to the brand’s launch in the late 1990’s. This was brought back to 2014 by cropping the blazers, taking it in at the waist and adding fluorescent turquoise as a key colour. Whether you go out and buy the collection new or just take inspiration for when trawling through the buckets at Blue Rinse, use the collection. It’s genius.
