Two men have been charged over a minibus crash that killed Leeds nursing student, Bethany Jones, in April last year.

Jones, 18, was killed when a lorry collided with a bus travelling to Liverpool for a Hen Party. 20 other women were hurt in the crash, eight of them seriously.

The drivers of both the minibus and the lorry have now been charged. James Johnson and lorry driver Kevin Ollerhead were both charged with causing death by dangerous driving. Both have been bailed and will appear before Wakefield Magistrates’ Court on January 20.

A University spokesperson told LS at the time of the crash: “It is with great sadness that the University has learnt of the death of one of our students. Our thoughts are with her family and we are offering advice and support to our staff and students at this difficult time.”

Jones’ funeral was held on 20th June in South Elmsall. Other victims of the crash appeared to pay their respects.

UPDATE: Johnson and Ollerhead appeared in Wakefield Magistrates Court this morning, facing their charges of causing death by dangerous driving. The two man had their bail extended, and they are now due to appear at Leeds Crown Court on February 3rd.
