News | Leeds Met name change approved

Leeds Metropolitan University will officially be renamed Leeds Beckett from September 2014.

The Privy Council approved the name change despite a strong backlash from students.

Arguments against the change stated the £250,000 estimated cost could be better spent on improving facilities.

The university said it had “outgrown” the old name. This follows a report presented to the university board earlier this year which said there was evidence to suggest using the name “Metropolitan indicated a lower quality product”.
