News | LSTV raises thousands for children

LSTV has raised over £2,000 in its annual marathon broadcast for Children in Need, smashing last year’s record by more than £300.

The epic programme was broadcast live from the Union foyer for seven hours. The show included several challenges, including a Bake-Off, and spin offs of Children in Need performances. Societies, such as the A Capella and the Stage Musical Society also performed live throughout the day.

LSTV members raised money through bucket shaking, cake stalls and a tombola with gifts donated by the Union’s shops and bars. The media society also wrote and produced their own charity single. At the time of writing the group had raised £2146.94, monitored using a 14-foot Blue Peter totaliser.

On Friday, the society were visited by the Yorkshire Post and were even featured on the live BBC 1 Children in Need broadcast with footage of their ‘Who Wants to Eat a Chilli On Air’ game show.

LSTV’s Head of Programming, Karl Taylor, spoke of the “massive group effort” and the day’s success, saying: “We’ve been doing marathon broadcasts for Children in Need for many years now, and each year it just gets better and better and we raise more and more money!”
