News | Armed men rob Tesco

Four armed robbers, carrying crowbars and hammers, held up a Tesco Express, on Burley Road last Saturday.

The masked men entered the shop at 7pm and threatened staff and customers. West Yorkshire Police have said: “a substantial amount of cash and cigarettes” was stolen.

One member of staff activated the alarm, causing the robbers to flee the scene. The assailants escaped in a stolen bright red Audi RS4 Estate with fake registration plates, which was later found abandoned by the police.

A police spokesperson told LS: “It’s one of the few incidents of its kind. Leeds doesn’t usually suffer crimes of this nature. We will be investigating
thoroughly.”

The police are appealing for anyone with information or who has been offered cigarettes under suspicious circumstances to contact Detective Constable Dan Crumbley at Pudsey police station on the non-emergency number 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
