What better way than using the emblem of manhood to help raise awareness and raise money in the aid of men’s health? Whether you decide to grow a moustache or not, the month is a fun way to do something for charity and of course, celebrate body hair. Here is our quick guide to the hairy month.
We all know Movember as the annual month long event in which men all around the country are encouraged to sport facial hair, namely moustaches, in order to raise awareness of men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer. The Movember Foundation charity aim to ‘change the face of men’s health’. Quite literally. Throughout the month, moustaches are talked about, laughed about and grown through sheer determination and strength. Here is a quick guide to the month.
Take a look at online community, Mo Space
This website offers a community for what they call ‘Mo Bros’ and ‘Mo Sistas’. By the way, ‘Mo Sistas’ are the females within men’s lives who support the moustache-growing and fundraise for the cause. With this app, you can also recruit team members, share updates and track your daily moustache growth with the Mo Tracker. At the end of the month, you can even view your progress through a little movie flick book of photos.
Everyone can take part
For those without the ability to grow a moustache, one option is No Shave November, in which individuals grow all of their body hair in aid of their chosen cause. One thing people might learn with this is that body hair is completely acceptable: shave or don’t shave, it’s completely up to you.
Go for the comical approach
Some Movember participants will go for the more humorous approach to facial hair. Mexican moustaches, handlebar moustaches and toothbrush moustaches are among the styles that will be sure to be a people pleaser. With much styling and pruning necessary, this option can be a lot of hard work yet it’ll win the approval of friends due to sheer hilarity and audacity alone.
Females can grow a moustaches too
Sarah O’Neill, who has excess facial hair due to polycystic ovary syndrome, is growing a moustache to not only raise money for cancer but raise awareness of the condition. Her comment on why she was taking part with Movember was: “I have a moustache, I might as well raise some money with it.”
Copy moustaches of the rich and famous
You’re other option during Movember is to emulate the facial hair of famous pop culture icons, both dead and alive. You could go for the slightly pretentious approach and take hipsterdom to a whole new level by copying Salvador Dali’s artistic approach to facial hair, Charlie Chaplin’s famous toothbrush moustache or even the unkempt and bristly hair of Einstein’s. There’s also the option of copying contemporary film and TV stars. Brad Pitt now has a moustache, Bruce Forsyth has sported one for years… They must be in, right?
Want some growing tips?
Eat a healthy diet, stay hydrated and get lots of sleep in order to increase your chances of successful hair growth. Also, unfortunately enough, avoid sex, as apparently it’s thought that if you don’t have sex regularly the body will produce more facial hair in order to attract a mate. So who knows, your facial hair may even gain you some romantic interest.
