Sport | BUCs Preview

Beginning at The Edge, the Women’s basketball will look to extend their perfect start to the season, as bottom-placed Sunderland visit this week.

A 45-28 victory over Northumbria last week saw them pull away, alongside league-leaders Hull, despite retaining the advantage of a game in hand.

Earlier in the day, however, Badminton will take centre-stage, as Leeds face their Metropolitan rivals for the first time since taking a surprise Varsity point in October.

To repeat this feat, Uni will have to overcome their early season form, but will hope they will have some momentum following a 7-1 thrashing of Durham last week.

In both hockey and football this week, the ladies teams will be again looking for their first wins of the season, despite suffering heavy defeats last week.

Hockey take on Loughborough, only a place above them, while football face 4th place Durham – both far more winnable than their fixtures against top-of-the-table rivals last week.

Over in the Gryphon Centre, Leeds’ Men’s Squash team have enjoyed a fantastic start to the season, not least in a narrow 11-9 away victory over MMU 1st  last week.

Third-placed Manchester 2nds visit Leeds this week, and victory will give some daylight from the chasing pack.

Finally, the Men’s Lacrosse host a Northumbria side who  have enjoyed relatively better fortunes so far this season.

Still looking for their first points, it will be a tough fixture for Leeds, as their opponents sit third in the table.
