News | Popular club closes

House nightclub The Garage has been forced to close as the landlord of the property has not extended the tenancy.

Described by staff as a “minor tragedy”, the club is having to find a new home but hopes to reopen at Christmas at a new venue.

The Garage broke the news on Facebook, telling fans they would keep the “best bits” from the club. The venue was voted DJ Mag’s Best Small Club in 2012 and says its promoters have agreed to stay with the club, including nights such as Back To Basics and Beatstreet.

Rob Chadwick from the club said: “Unfortunately, it’s a sad time for the world of clubbing in Leeds. One of the shining lights and a venue so relevant to today’s market has left us.”

He added: “To say it’s a sad day is probably an understatement but onwards and upwards as they say.”
