It won’t be the first time the Union’s been called a zoo but this week it may have been justified as Old Bar dished out zebra sausages.
The annual Sausage and Ale Festival, organised by the University’s Real Ale Society, sold African game including Zebra, Springbok and Buffalo.
When asked about the popularity of the unusual sausages, Matt Lingard, assistant manager, told LS: “The event as a whole has been very popular. We’ve managed to sell out on every type of sausage meat other than venison – and that’s only because venison meat is in season.”
The bar originally hoped to sell 43 barrels of ale but ended up selling nearly double that amount, with only nine brands left to choose from on the final day.
Mr Lingard added, “The success of the week has really proven just how popular beer can be.”
