This Thursday, Leeds party goers can expect one of the most exciting events of the year as disco-powerhouse Todd Terje returns to our city for the first time since 2011 for Flux presents: Todd Terje & Terranova at the Geodome.
Dubbed, “one third of the Holy Trinity of Norwegian disco” by Spin Magazine, Terje’s unique take on house and disco has led him to become one of the most distinguished figures in the dance music scene.
In light of this I caught up Philip Anscombe, who is one of Flux’s promoters to get some first hand information about what’s in store.
LS: Hi Philip, So from humble beginnings back in 2011, Flux has grown to become one of the most infamous and well-established events in Leeds. And you rounded off your first year of running the night by booking Terje for Flux presents: A night before Christmas. What changes do you have in store for Leeds party-goers with this returning headline act?
PA: Well over the past 3 years we have always tried to keep things fresh and never settle into a routine. Although our home will always be The Beaver Works we feel that throwing parties at other venues from time to time enables us to create new atmospheres and offer people something a little different.

When we heard about the worlds first Geodome being built in Leeds, we felt it would provide a perfect opportunity for us to throw a large party with a one-room focus, an ideal setting for a big name pioneer.
Since Terje’s last appearance at Flux his career has gone stratospheric; he returns to us as a worldwide star with a stellar reputation as a DJ to go with his long-admired legendary production skills. With his focus turning to live sets in the new year, this could be his last DJ set in the North for a long time. I think on Thursday we will see something very special.

Being a devoted Terje fan, I’ve rustled up my top five tracks and some reasons why:
5. Dolle Jolle – Balearic Incarnation (Todd Terje remix)
There’s something ethereal about this Terje remix. The Scandinavian synths are of the shimmering, warm and sun-drenched variety. Mesmerising from start to finish.
4. Todd Terje – Snooze 4 Love
Many overlooked ‘Snooze 4 Love’ in favour of the more esteemed ‘Ragysh’ during the furore that surrounded Terje’s ‘Running Back’ debut. Soft, comforting echoes of melody set a dreamlike tone, but as the track progresses it gathers weight, momentum and force.
3. Chic – I Want Your Love (Todd Terje edit)
Chic’s original will go down in the annals of Disco history. Terje’s edit transforms “I Want Your Love” into a modern club cut without sullying the original. Stripping it back here, decorating it there, Terje’s efforts pay homage to the original whilst lending it an altogether fresh focus and direction. This is how editing should be done.
2. Todd Terje – Eurodans
Back in 2005, Terje produced ‘Eurodans’ and fast-tracked himself to world acclaim. Euphoric melodies are anchored by a muscular bassline. Terje as usual managing to stay just the right side of cheesy.
1. Todd Terje – Ragysh
It’s been two and a half years since Ragysh was released, but it remains a potent dancefloor invigorator. Trademark synths, urgent string stabs and a monumental breakdown; this unquestionably has to be my all-time Terje favourite.
