After the Men’s 1sts completed their revenge over Met last week, it’s the turn of the Women’s Hockey to take centre stage.
Lining up against Loughborough, newly promoted will have a job on their hands against a side who placed third in the Premier North last season.
The Gryphons, having taken the place of Met in the league, will be looking to fair far better than their city rivals did last season, as they took just one win from their 10 fixtures.
Despite going down 4-0 to last season’s champions Durham last Wednesday, Leeds will relish getting their tougher games out of the way early. With the pressure off, who know what can happen.
Over in the football, Leeds has bad memories of Loughborough’s 1sts. Slumping to a 10-0 defeat last week, the Women’s 1sts will have to improve when city rivals Met visit this week, though the signs are not wholly negative for them.
Despite Varsity defeat earlier in the month, Met’s own confidence will be shot after a 4-0 defeat to Nottingham Trent in their opening BUCS fixture of this season – a fact which Uni will look to capitalise on.
Loughborough feature again this week and, as the ladies dominate the home fixtures, the Women’s Badminton 1sts play in a top-of-the-table clash tomorrow.
While Leeds have started firmly finishing level on points with Met last week, Loughborough completed an 8-0 demolition of Durham to kick start their campaign, leaving tomorrow’s competitors two points apart at the top of the table.
As we finally get around to the Men, the Northern 2B League is shaping up nicely for the Rugby League team, having demolished York St John 34-4 in their opening fixture.
The boys will be expecting to extend this lead tomorrow, as they line up against Hull 2nds, who prop up the foot of the table following a heavy defeat to Teesside last week – the only side ahead of the Gryphons on goal difference.
Finally, the Fencing team play host to Durham Men’s 2nds at The Edge on Wednesday, but will be fearful of the Wearsiders’ ability to score points, following their 135-46 victory over Newcastle’s 3rds in their first game.
Leeds will be looking to build on their own strong start though, having beaten Durham’s 3rd team last week in a tight away encounter.
