News | Meal deal snatcher checks out

Security officers detained a 30 year old man last week after stealing food from Essentials.

The shoplifter, believed to be from North Yorkshire, was detained at approximately 12:35pm last Friday when a member of staff raised the alarm.

The man stole a sandwich, orange juice and a bag of crisps, the total value of which was £4.79 – the equivalent to two meal deals, and was consequentially detained when trying to leave without paying.

The offender was issued with a Community Resolution Order. Although no further criminal charges were taken. Union Affairs Officer Bradley Escorcio commented: “A non student [was] apprehended by the police and given an on the spot £90 fine. They have been told not return to the building.”
