The Edge

Home to: Swimming, Rock Climbing, Badminton, Basketball, Triathlon, Water Polo, Fencing, Handball, Korfball, Rowing, Trampolining

Location: On Campus. The Edge is located towards the bottom of campus, just down the hill from the fountains of the Roger Stevens building.

About: This striking sports centre was built in 2010 and boasts a 25m swimming pool, a well-equipped gym, two sports halls and runs over 125 fitness classes per week.The Edge is open from 06:30 to 22:30 weekdays but busiest 2 til 4. Membership to the Edge is included in your first year at Leeds, so make the most of it!

Gryphon Centre

Home to: Netball, Squash, Volleyball

Location: On Campus. The Gryphon Centre is situated towards the north of campus on Woodsley Road, near the Business School.

About: The Gryphon Centre is home to the University’s elite sport program. It underwent a £2.5 million refurbishment in 2008 and now has an impressive sports hall which is used by the Netball and Volleyball clubs. You will also find the Squash club upstairs in one of the its three squash courts. You should definitely head over to the Gryphon centre at some point in your first year and check out the indoor sports on offer.

Weetwood

Home to: Football, Hockey, Rugby Union, Cricket, Lacrosse, Cross Country, American Football, Rugby League, Ultimate Frisbee.

Location: Otley Road, opposite Lawnswood School.

About: Weetwood is the University’s outdoor sports complex and is a 15 minute bus ride out of town. The cheapest way to get there and back is to buy a FirstDay ticket, which will cost you £3.90. You can catch either the 1 or the 95 from the University Steps, getting off at the stop named Lawnswood School. Weetwood has it all: a 3G pitch, two astroturf pitches and 29 grass pitches.
