Taking after Glasgow’s string of short plays at the Oran Mor theatre, West Yorkshire Playhouse are launching a tasty new treat this term. Not only will a £10 ticket whet your appetite with a selection of brand new writing, but it will also cover a traditional Yorkshire pie and a pint of your choice, available to take with you inside the courtyard theatre.

The scheme has been catapulted to a promising start thanks to Alice Chisholm’s staging of Three So Far. Written by Richard Cameron (who won the prestigious Dennis Potter award in 1997 for his TV play Stone, Scissors, Paper), the play focuses on three friends who try to depict ‘The Seven Ages of Man’, from Shakespeare’s As You Like It. Weaving from the classroom to the troubles of youth, including sexual encounters and fatherly abuse, Cameron’s play manages to maintain a surprising amount of momentum and grandeur for such a short running time and can only indicate the quality of the next two plays to come.
