With a bustling and vibrant city centre, there’s never a dull day here in the fashion capital of the North. Here is a pick of our most recommended shopping destinations for you to explore to your heart’s content. Wave goodbye to those shiny new student loans and we’ll see you there.
Believe it or not, this gorgeous building was in fact once used for trading corn up until the 1990s. Located slightly out of the way from the buzz of Briggate, the Corn Exchange offers the perfect opportunity to get lost amongst its cute cafés, unique shops and independent design outlets. Fancy a browse? Get yourself there between 10am and 6pm on September 28, when the Exchange invites you to its Autumn Gift Fair. Why not kit out your new room with some of the trinkets on offer to make you feel that little bit closer to home?
Take a wander up to the pink paradise of Mad Elizabeth – a real one of a kind boutique stuffed with affordable pieces, which will no doubt please those of you who like to keep an eye on your bank balance. Similarly, Blue Rinse, which originated in Leeds Kirkgate Market, is another hidden gem, which has gained a loyal following and is definitely worth a visit – you may have already spied it whilst rummaging through the rails in Urban Outfitters. Whether you’re searching for an original piece with a modern twist, or a pair of good old vintage Levis; you are sure to find something on one of the three floors of this vintage haven.
Tucked away on Kirkgate, directly opposite The Duck and Drake pub, is the eclectic treasure trove and critically acclaimed Bird’s Yard. If mainstream just ain’t your thing and you prefer a few oddities in life, waste away a lazy Saturday or two getting lost amongst the heaps and racks, and fall down the rabbit hole to re-fuel at the Alice in Wonderland style tea shop.
The city centre is only the start so keep your eyes peeled when you are around Headingley, which has plenty of charity shops offering that little something different. Go and grab yourself a Grandma coat that Macklemore would be proud of!
