Three Yorkshire players have been selected in England’s Ashes squad for the return series in Australia this winter. Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow and newcomer Gary Ballance have all caught the selector’s eye and have been named in the 17 man squad.
Zimbabwe born left hander Gary Ballance has impressed for Yorkshire in the County Championship this year, scoring 995 runs at an average of 52.36. He has been widely touted as a Test replacement in the England middle-order for fellow Yorkshire batsman Jonny Bairstow, who will travel as the reserve wicket-keeper.
Bowler Tim Bresnan will also travel with the squad but is not expected to play any part as he recovers from a stress fracture in his back. Another Yorkshire player who will be in Australia this winter is batsman Alex Lees, who will travel with the Lions squad.
