The University is trying to prevent another shortfall of students by recruiting more candidates who have made Leeds their first choice.

 

Last year 500 places went unfilled due to the shortage of high achieving students. A reform to student recruitment this summer means universities will now accept an unlimited number of students with ABB or higher, but restricts the intake of students who perform below this threshold.

 

This year has seen an increased effort to encourage candidates to visit campus and persuade them to put Leeds as their first choice. Vice Chancellor Michael Arthur said: “if we can get people to ‘touch and feel’ the University, get a sense of our quality, the quality of the students union and the friendliness of the city then they are twice as likely to choose us.”

 

Michael Arthur has announced that the University also plans to attract more students through clearing when A-level results are announced tomorrow.
