A 22 year old woman has been prosecuted in Leeds for biting a student on the nose in nightclub Oceana. The incident left Leeds Met student Archie Watson bleeding from a two centimetre cut.

Sacha Smith was captured on CCTV talking to Watson before the situation escalated. Smith unexpectedly pushed Watson twice, grabbed his head and bit him on the nose. After reporting the attack to Oceana door staff, Smith was detained until the police arrived.

Ian Cook, representing Smith, told Leeds Crown Court on June 17 that the assault was a reaction to an “inappropriate comment” which had distressed his client. Cook added: “She knows it was a disgraceful act on her part. She lashed out in temper.”

Smith admitted to causing actual bodily harm and was given a conditional discharge for 12 months. Since the incident, Smith has been working with the Together Women Project.
