Her Campus Leeds is an online community for university and college women around the United States and the UK, started by undergraduates at Harvard University. It features content that is written exclusively by students, for students, that ranges so widely in topic that there is something for everyone.
Luckily for Leeds, our campus has its own branch of Her Campus. The website features news, ‘Campus Celebrities’, ‘Campus Cuties’, blogs and reviews, providing an opportunity for students of both genders to experience writing about their own interests in styles that personally suit them.
The society also welcomes photographers, event managers and promo staff for the numerous events it puts on throughout the year. So far the students have organised an Oxjam music event at the Library Pub, a ‘Ladies’ Evening’ of beauty treatments for charity and a ‘Ladies in the Media’ evening where budding journos can learn from speakers from the industry. This is on top of the usual society-style nights out.
The society committee are very welcoming and are happy to provide detailed feedback on work and guarantee that it ends up on the website, meaning that no member’s efforts are wasted and everybody gets the opportunity to improve.
Overall this is a fun, friendly and successful media society that every budding writer consider joining.
