Michael Arthur is to step down as the Vice-Chancellor of Leeds University.
As of September 2013, Professor Arthur is to leave Leeds and begin work as the new President and Provost of University College of London.
Since taking on the role of Vice-Chancellor in 2004, Professor Arthur has attempted to raise Leeds’ global standing, aiming to become one of the top 50 universities in the world by 2015.
From 2009 to 2012, Professor Arthur also chaired the Russell Group.
Pro-Chancellor of Leeds, Linda Pollard, praised Professor Arthur’s “tremendous contribution” to the university.
It has not yet been announced who is to succeed Professor Arthur in 2013.
