Edge voyeur pleads guilty

The Edge voyeur, Marco Cheyne, has pleaded guilty to two counts of voyeurism.

On Wednesday, Cheyne, who was caught taking photos under the door of a girl’s changing room, admitted to the charges brought against him in October.

Two months ago, Leeds Student reported that the man had been seized by security and arrested after being caught spying on a female student. The girl sought help after noticing a hand holding a mobile appear from under the door of her cubicle. The incident occurred in the Edge Sports Centre’s ‘village-style’ changing area.

The University has since made the sports centre safer, with security officers stepping up the frequency of patrols in the changing areas. Speaking last month, the University stated that: “the security and wellbeing of our customers is paramount”, Mr Cheyne was brought back to the magistrate court as they had asked for a pre-sentence report to be completed. He has been re-bailed to his home address with the same conditions attached.

The incident happened in the same week as another, separate, case of voyeurism in the Edge. Another spying-related incident occured in Essentials at the Union, where a man was banned from campus after surrepticiously filming a girl in the shop. Mr Cheyne will be committed for sentence on the December 27 at Leeds Crown Court.
