Leeds Student TV has raised nearly £2,000 last week for Children In Need.

Last Friday, LSTV carried out a seven hour broadcast in the Union foyer, including live acts every hour and an array of charity fundraising stalls to mark the annual fundraiser.

The student-run TV station, which won Best Broadcaster in 2011 at the National Student Television Awards, joined a number of other societies raising money to improve the lives of disadvantaged children in the UK.

Acts performing during the broadcast included magician Chris Cook and a performance from the Musical Theatre Society, who performed a piece from the ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’.

LSTV also made full use of social media on the day, tweeting to bring their broadcast to the attention of popular celebrities.

A highlight of the broadcast was the society’s charity song, which was brought to national attention when BBC Radio 2’s Steve Wright credited LSTV for its efforts on his popular afternoon show. LSTV also received attention ITV.

At the time of print, the TV station had raised £1773.94, and is still hoping to raise more.

Fred Cook, LSTV’s Station Manager said, “I’m genuinely proud of the society and its members and what we were able to achieve for Children In Need”.

The marathon has not yet met its aim to exceed the £2,299 the station raised last year, but their Just Giving page is still open to donations here.
